DELIVERING FORESHORE RESTORATION AT POINT WAYLEN

Federal Member for Tangney Sam Lim MP today announced that a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will deliver funding to restore the foreshore at Point Waylen in Attadale.

This $850,000 election commitment will fund the revitalisation of this important community space along the Attadale Alfred Cove foreshore in Tangney.

This project will include the replanting of trees and native vegetation to create habitat and increase biodiversity, integration with the Melville Bird Sanctuary, education about the site’s environmental values, a cultural dance circle and accessible boardwalks and paths.

The Albanese Labor Government’s commitment to protecting our environment and restoring the health of our urban waterways is reflected in projects across Tangney, including investments in cleaning up the Canning River and in protecting the ecological health of the Swan-Canning Estuary foreshore.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Sydney, Tanya Plibersek:

“Australians love spending time outdoors. We want to better protect our urban spaces, and the plants and animals that call them home, so they can continue to be enjoyed by our kids and grandkids.

“Nearly half of all nationally listed threatened animals and a quarter of our threatened plants are in urban areas. Investing in projects like this is great for our precious native wildlife, and great for the local community.

“This election commitment builds on the Albanese Labor Government’s other investments to better protect our environment, including protecting 100 million hectares of land and ocean and investing $550 million to better protect threatened plants and animals and tackle invasive pests. We’ve also invested $200 million in over 100 projects to clean up rivers and waterways through our Urban Rivers program.

“Plus, a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will invest $250 million to protect an extra 30 million hectares of Aussie bushland – an area larger than New Zealand.

“The choice at the election couldn’t be clearer. Labor, who will protect nature, fund essential science, invest in threatened species, and act on climate change. Or the climate deniers and wreckers of the Liberal and National parties who haven’t made a single commitment that would help improve nature.”

Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Tangney Sam Lim MP:

“This announcement delivers restoration and revitalisation work for an important cultural site that is cherished and much loved by the Tangney community.

“The foreshore restoration of Point Waylen will foster new connections between our natural world and the Tangney community for generations to come.”
